Lisburn Downtown Centre
Downtown has been part of the Lisburn community since 1988, providing support to those feeling isolated and alone. Downtown is a community hub were all are welcome to come, socialise with others, learn new skills and gain vital information in a relaxed, non-judging atmosphere.
Lisburn Downtown offers support to people struggling with a mental health problem, a mild learning difficulty, bereavement, loneliness, etc. The volunteers ensure each member feels welcomed, relaxed and comfortable; resulting in purposeful and effective sessions were members feel well supported.
In addition to our twice weekly drop in sessions (open to all members of the community); we facilitate a number of different, needs specific, support groups. The Welcome Club which assists individuals with learning difficulties, Cheer You Up Club for senior citizens, Contact Group which assists Carers and parents of children with learning difficulties, as well as our Friday Club; a referral group focusing on supporting those experiencing a mental health problem.
Christian Aid
First Lisburn is a congregation aware of the needs of the developing world and is a founding member of the local Christian Aid Support Group made up of 18 churches. Many members give generously to the Presbyterian Church in Ireland’s annual World Development Appeal each Christmas which is shared equally between Christian Aid and Tearfund. We subscribe to the Christian Aid slogan – “We Believe in Life Before Death”.
CAP
Christians Against Poverty is a national debt counselling charity with a network of debt centres based in local churches. CAP offers hope and a solution to people in debt through its top quality, in-depth service.
First Lisburn has partnered with CAP to offer debt counselling in our community. The service we offer is completely free and is a 3 step process: Fact Finding, Explaining the Budget, and Continuous Support.
